Walk Diary

Sunny and windy. Rare Friday walk. Obelisk to commemorate Sir William Cosway. Churchyard off limits due to ‘Unsafe Power Cables’ following Storm Eunice. Outside church bell. Keith vanishes for several minutes. Views of Bilsington Priory. Bonnington church open. St Rumwold who lived for three days and could speak. Footpath blocked by large piles of earth and a footbridge blocked by a trough of water (emptied by Debbie and John). We become separated by nearly a quarter-mile. Walk much delayed and we arrive at the pub 25 minutes late. A choice of Doom Bar or Landlord. Liver & bacon, steak & ale pies, and suet puddings. Gravy in small glass jars. Cheesecakes and a brownie. Keith is served an incredibly weak coffee. Odo’s Barn. Narrow, muddy and slippery canal-side path to Ruckinge. Large number of tiles lost at Ruckinge church. Norman arches. Ruckinge has special significance for the Ordnance Survey. Walk across Romney Marsh following the lanes. Tar Pot Lane badly affected by subsidence. Car in a ditch. Return to the pub for tea and soft drinks.
